“Our vision is to be the Town of Choice for residents, visitors and investors”

Gobabis is a small town situated on the route from Windhoek to Botswana, some 110km from the Buitepos Border post with Botswana and around 205km from the capital city. The name is Khoi-Khoi for 'the place of strife' but interestingly enough a slight misspelling favoured by the locals (Gobabis) would change the meaning to 'a drinking place of elephants' probably a reference to the nearby Swart-Nossob River.

The town is in the heart of the prosperous cattle farming area, and is considered to be the capital of eastern Namibia. It is also known as the 'Little Texas' of Namibia, in fact Gobabis is so proud of it's cattle farming, that a statue of a large bull with the inscription 'Welcome to Cattle Country' greets visitors to the town.
