BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES

NB: This article is writen independendly by an eceomic analyst with general alanyzation of the town of Gobabis.

The business and economic sector of Gobabis is still small and in it early growth stages. There is a low representation of business in the different categories of business in the market. One will find 2 to 3 business if not one only in the different segments of the business industry. Foreseen opportunities could be in the following sectors:

 

Meat/Farm Products

One could really mention that Gobabis is the capital town of Namibia’s highest and best farming Omaheke Region, well known as the “Cattle Country”. This definitely means that the kind of products that could come out of this region is of great and unique qualities. The actual problem is that in the region there are no farmer products processing plants to compliment the farming population in producing processed and market ready meat or dairy products. Livestock are exported alive in most quantities having only two small scale abattoirs in the region.

 

Hotel & Accommodation

Gobabis doesn’t have really high traveller statistics from other parts of the country or abroad who come and stay in and around town for certain reasons but what the current stakeholders don’t realize is that the locals could also have a very good economic contribution with the ever rising working class of the town. Only if the aspects like; Pricing, Marketing, Service quality and layouts could be made modern and market relevant. The resent closing of Big 5 Central Hotel, I believe has left a great opportunity in the Hotel and Accommodation industry here.  

 

Bachelor Accommodation

With the Government’s decentralization process and the many public and private institutions bringing their offices to the town, there is a big lackage in the accommodation of this working class. So there is definitely a good opportunity in building flats or development of properties for hire. I would advise to study the Gobabis mindset before putting hiring rates.

 

Leisure and Recreation

Gobabis, with its large population of working youth and young adults has a very big lackage when it comes to this section of the market. Young people are starving of leisure and recreation and one can tell when moving around the town on weekends and holidays, everyone would be talking about going to Windhoek. That’s automatically means something…

 

Clubbing and Entertainment

Gobabis does not have a fully functional and professional club or entertainment house but the population of youth and young adults is great and has the eagerness for such facilities. Having the facilities and hosting events on a regular basis with great standard in town, could be a very good potential market that could have good turn overs.
